Geek Camp

Does anybody know what a Barcamp is? Or more specifically, does anyone wanna join me?

To me it's going to be my first coming out party as a full-fledged geek. Barcamp is like a potluck event, but instead of bringing meatloafs and casseroles, you bring your laptop with wifi connection and some tech-related ideas to share.

I didn't go to the first one, but I'm planning to be there this time.

The event will be held on Aug 30-31 from 10am-6pm (I don't think we're required to stay THE WHOLE DAMN DAY... right??) at Building 3 of the Faculty of Engineering in Chula.

Each person who's there is however encouraged to "present" something, and not just be an audience. At first I didn't know what I wanted to do (was just gonna be the onlooker, which is not a good conduct of a Barcamper) but now I know.

Web 2.0 in Traditional Media. How perfectly fitting is that? Not only that I can talk about geek stuff to a crowd that will actually understand what I'm talking about, I'm still able to use this chance for both self and corporate promotion.

Now the thing is, if I showed up with my pinkified Macbook in a predominantly Open Source/Linux crowd, would I get lynched?

I saw the sign-up sheets, the list looks pretty good. It includes many of Thailand's best known tech individuals, some I have already interviewed in BK, so it should be fun. For geeks that is.

So now, who's geeky enough to go with me? Show of hands? No?

Namichan, why must you be in Paris? This would be totally our thing.
